A detective accused of stealing and plotting to sell seized drugs was the officer who collected a cocaine exhibit from the Forensic Science laboratory following analysis, a jury heard.
Forensic scientist Julian Dunnill said cocaine and two other exhibits - ketamine and diazepam - were brought to the lab at Wetherby on February 10, 2010.
They were among items seized following an arrest by the Organised Crime Group, of which Det Con Nicholas McFadden was a member.
McFadden, 38, formerly of Grove Street, Ossett, is on trial for drug theft and conspiracy to supply them.
This week the trial at Leeds Crown Court heard how a small sample was subsequently sent to Birmingham but the rest remained in a secure store until collected on August 10 by McFadden.
The original wrappings had been collected separately by another officer on February 12 to be taken for fingerprinting and DNA checks.
The drugs were put in new bags and sealed. There was also a form, in a plastic sleeve, which was signed for by the collecting officer.
When McFadden’s locker was searched following his arrest in October 2011 the plastic drugs wrapping was found along with the sleeve. Prosecutors claim he never replaced the drugs into the secure store at the Crime Group premises.
McFadden’s brother Simon, 41, of Darfield Place, Leeds, is also on trial. He denies conspiracy to supply and money laundering.
Trial continues.
