BRAVE, kindhearted and determined youngsters whose stories melt hearts and make people smile, are set to get the red-carpet treatment as this year’s Champion Children Awards are launched.
Now is your chance to nominate special children who you think deserve the chance to shine.
There are no categories, so nominations can be for anything that makes a child a champion in your eyes, from putting others first, to excellent academic achievement, helping in the community, caring for a loved one, battling illness or triumphing over adversity in any way at all.
Last year’s champions included Jacob Burbeck, 15, of Ryhill, who was forced to grow up quickly when his mum suffered a brain haemorrhage. He had to become the man of the house, learning to cook, clean and do all the washing.
If you want to nominate a special child, all you have to do is write a letter explaining why you have chosen them.
Include your name, address and daytime telephone number, and contact details for the child’s family if they are different to your own.
Send your entry to Champion Children, Newsroom, Wakefield Express, Express House, Southgate, WF1 1TE or email editorial@wakefieldexpress.co.uk putting Champion Children in the subject box.
Closing date for nominations is Friday, November 16.
A panel of judges will sit after the closing date and choose the youngsters who will become our Champion Children.
They will be invited to attend the award ceremony with their family at Theatre Royal Wakefield on Friday, December 14.
