Eddie Izzard runs into Wakefield

CROSS dressing comedian Eddie Izzard was running through the streets of the city this week.

The transvestite funny man, and hollywood actor, was last spotted leaving the city past Newmillerdam as part of mammoth charity fundraising effort to complete 1,000 miles in just seven weeks for Sport Relief.

On Monday he ran into the city and passed Lightwaves and then left on Tuesday afternoon as he headed on to South Yorkshire.

Mr Izzard's run is the equivalent of running more than a marathon a day as he tries to get around the whole of the Uk.

He said: "I had always wanted to do a big physical running challenge, and this seemed a great way to do it and also raise money to help Africa and the poorest countries in the world as well as projects that Sport Relief fund in the UK."

Before he set off he was advised by Olympic experts to help keep him on track.

Mr Izzard said: "I told them I wanted to try to run around the whole of the UK. London to Cardiff to Belfast to Edinburgh and back to London, running through as many parts of the UK that lie in between our four capitals.

"They said great. You're nuts. I said yes but that never hurt. They said how far is this? I said 1100 miles.

"They said great. Is there anything else you want to mention. Yes. I will run through England holding an English flag and then I'll run through Wales holding a Welsh flag and so on through all the UK

The comedian set off in July and is setting a pace of about five miles per hour.

He has been accompanied by a small team including route planners and a sports therapist for any of his medical or nutritional requirements.
