Art, fitness and sports demonstrations will take place at Lightwaves next weekend to show what the centre can offer since it reopened.

The Faceless arts group, Trinity Batons, Wakey Wheeled Cats and martial arts groups will take part in the special re-launch event, on Saturday, March 23.

The family event will include a bouncy castle, fitness sessions and games aimed at children.

There will also be live music from local bands Boxing Klub and the Michael Ainsley Band, and a DJ to entertain the crowds.

Centre manager Alan Bell said: “These are exciting times for the new Lightwaves. We are already attracting a range of new sports clubs and community groups, and we have some exciting events lined up for the coming year. The launch will give people old and young a flavour of what Lightwaves is all about. This day is about having fun and celebrating the community taking control of a facility which is already creating champions.”

The event will run from 1pm until 6pm.

Lightwaves’ swimming pool had to close last autumn as Wakefield Council opened a new pool on Sun Lane.

But the Lightwaves Community Trust took on the running of the centre from November last year. For more details, visit www.lightwaves.org.uk
