A TEAM of firefighters will be pedalling to the coast to raise money for one of their colleagues.
The crew members from Normanton Fire Station are to cycle 75 miles from their base in Princess Street to Filey, in North Yorkshire, today.
They are raising money for the Fire Fighters Charity, which supports staff and their families when they need it most.
Their money will help crew commander Dave Hollingsworth who is currently on sick leave after suffering major strokes.
Mr Hollingsworth, 45, has worked in the fire service for 22 years, covering Wakefield for some of that time.
Normanton firefighter Phil Morgan, 43, is one of those who will be getting back in the saddle today for the ride.
He said: “Dave is very popular and well liked among the staff and we felt we wanted to do something to help.
“He is one of the core lads and money we raise for the charity will help supply additional physiotherapy which will improve his mobility.
“We are looking forward to the challenge and will be thinking of Dave to inspire us through the tough parts.”
Mr Morgan will be joined by fellow firefighters John Bolton, Andy Lee, Keith Jones and Geraldine Gorton and watch managers Darren Hague, Mick Tetlow and Dave Smith.
They will be followed by a support vehicle, which has been supplied fully fuelled by Greenwhich Windows.
Anyone who wants to sponsor them can do so via the new station.
