Freedom of City march for regiment
THE Ri?es Regiment will inherit the Freedom of the City tomorrow Septrmber 11th.
The Rifles will march through Wake?eld city centre after being presented with the Freedom of the City from the Mayor of Wake?eld, Tony Wallis.
They inherited the honour following their formation through the amalgamation of The Yorkshire Light Infantry.
The regiment will also be celebrating its return after a tour of duty in Afghanistan with a homecoming parade.
Leader of Wake?eld Council, Coun Peter Box, said: "I am very proud of The Ri?es and I am pleased to see them inheriting the Freedom of the City.
"I look forward to the parade and hope people from all around the district come to the city to give them the homecoming they deserve."
The parade will arrive in Northgate at 11.10am and will march through the city via Kirkgate and Westmorland Street.
They will return to Northgate at 12.05pm and then march up Kirkgate to Westgate.
Spectators have been asked to remain in the Cathedral precinct until the parade returns.
