Heavy snow closes schools and slows traffic
Latest news...
Schools are closed and driving conditions are hazardous due to heavy snow this morning.
Traffic is slow on the M1 and M62 motorways due to snow and strong winds, and cars are sliding on untreated minor roads.
The Met office said heavy and persistent snowfall was expected today, with between five and 10cm falling in some parts.
People are warned to expect significant disruption to transport routes.
