Horbury grandmother killed by her daughter-in-law

A PENSIONER was stabbed to death by her own daughter-in-law.

Amra Hartley, 41, of no fixed abode, pleaded not guilty to a charge of murdering Margaret Hartley.

But Hartley did admit the manslaughter of her 77-year-old mother-in-law, on the grounds of diminished responsibility at Leeds Crown Court today. (Friday.)

The great grandmother was stabbed to death in her home, on Cross Keys Court, Horbury, on May 15, 2009.

The Recorder of Leeds, Judge Peter Collier QC, described it as a "very difficult and sad case".

He adjourned the case for reports by Dr Linda Harris, a specialist in class A drug addiction and substance misuse, to determine whether

Hartley would be a risk to the public in future.

Hartley was remanded in custody and is expected to sentenced in May.
