Lightwaves back in action

Lightwaves is reopening under Next Gen's administration and they are desperate for bookings.

Lightwaves is reopening under Next Gen's administration and they are desperate for bookings.

LIGHTWAVES will reopen to sports and community groups on Thursday.

The centre was transferred to the Next Generation Youth and Community Project after Wakefield Council announced it could not afford to make vital repairs needed to the swimming pool last year.

And sporting groups have been encouraged to sign up to use the Marsh Way centre and become a part of its relaunch.

People swam their last lengths of the pool last Friday, ahead of Sun Lane Leisure’s opening on Saturday.

Project manager Mohammed Ayub said it was important people used Lightwaves to help secure its future.

He said: “Lightwaves is staying open and has a lot to offer for sports groups.

“New staff are in post, have been trained up, and are ready to go.”

The new Lightwaves will have a sports hall for football, basketball, cricket and volleyball, an activity room for clubs like martial arts, fitness, dance and tai chi.

And there are different sized spaces available for meetings, training, parties and events.

Mo Loveland, a community champion who has worked to improve the College Grove area for many years, will host an official opening party on Tuesday, November 6 at 5pm.
