Man died after being trapped in machine: inquest

A 49-year-old man died after becoming trapped in a machine at a Wakefield printing company, an inquest heard.

William Aveyard was working the night shift at Bezier on Balne Lane when the incident happened on Thursday, May 8.

The inquest heard how a colleague was sitting next to the machine, which was used for cutting, scoring and pressing card, when it started making 'clattering' a noise as though it had been mis-fed.

When he turned an looked he saw Mr Aveyard lying across it with his feet protruding.

Paramedics were called, but the married man, of Wrose Road, Shipley, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The inquest heard how Mr Aveyard was trained and competent in using the machine.

Police, firefighters and the health and safety executive attended the scene and an investigation has been launched.

A postmortem showed the provisional cause of death to be multiple injuries.

The inquest was adjourned for further inquiries and will be resumed before a jury in due course.
