Man dies in Wakefield canal

A MAN died after he went into a canal.

A major rescue operation was launched by the emergency services at 7.15pm last night. (Monday)

The man, believed to be 21, went into the water at Fall Ings Road, Agbrigg.

His friend went into the water to try and rescue him but failed.

Fire crews from Rothwell, Leeds and Brighouse were also called to the scene before the police underwater search team joined in the search.

At about 9.30pm the body of a man was recovered from the water.

Police said they were not treating the death as suspicious
