Man kept bracelet in his buttocks for 'safe keeping'
A MAN claimed he kept a piece of jewellery hidden in his buttocks because "it was the only place robbers wouldn't look", a court heard.
The 450 gold chain had been stolen in a burglary, but Scott Anthony Riley, 34, claimed it belonged to him.
Prosecutor Emma Trueman said: “He denied he had committed any offences. He said the chain was his and he kept it in his buttocks for safe keeping because he had been robbed before and it’s the only place robbers wouldn’t look.”
But on Tuesday, Riley, formerly of Peterson Road, Wakefield, but now of Ferry Fryston, Castleford, admitted handling stolen goods.
Wakefield magistrates heard how Riley’s former friend Dean Williams was burgled on October 12. Riley was arrested the next day on a motoring charge. When police searched him they found the gold chain had been hidden within his body.
Mr Williams later identified the jewellery as being his.
Mike Devlin, mitigating, said the pair had been friends but there was a falling out. He said: “It resulted in Mr Riley having possession of the bracelet, which has now been returned to the complainant in this case. The parties are no longer friends and no longer conduct business with each other.”
Magistrates sentenced Riley to a four-month curfew order to run from 7pm to 6am, Monday to Friday. He must pay 150 in costs.
