Mayor to Wakefield sleep out on cathedral steps
Mayor of Wakefield Elaine Blezard with Cllr Paula Sherriff who are sleeping rough on the cathedral steps for charity.
The Mayor of Wakefield Elaine Blezard will be among those swapping their warm beds for the cold slabs of the Wakefield Cathedral steps tonight.
Wakefield councillors will join fundraisers during a charity sleep out in the city centre from 9pm.
And anyone can join them in their quest to raise awareness of homelessness and support local homeless charities.
The event has been organised by Coun Paula Sherriff, who represents the Pontefract North ward.
She said: “We are spending a night under the stars sleeping rough to raise the plight of homelessness in this district.
“If you can’t stay the night, just join us for an hour or two, you will be very welcome.”
Residents can join them from 9pm by donating £5.
