Mini bus crash causes motorway havoc

MAJOR disruption was caused to traffic on the M62 near Lofthouse after a mini bus overturned earlier today (Sunday).

Police are appealing for witnesses after the serious collision at 1.50pm tday.

The mini bus overturned on the grass verge on the slip road from the M1 southbound onto the M62.

The driver and 11 passengers of the mini bus, all men in 20s and 30s from Rochdale, were injured.

Seven have serious injuries and five have minor injuries.They were taken to Leeds General Infirmary and Pinderfields Hospital by ambulance and air ambulance.

One lane was closed on the southbound carriageway of the M1 but was reopened shortly before 4.30pm.

The slip road onto the M62 at junction 42 (Lofthouse) remains closed.

The road closures are expected to be in place for the next couple of hours.
