MP Ed gets behind our campaign
NORMANTON MP Ed Balls has backed the Help Your High Street campaign to boost town centre trade.
The secretary of state for children, schools and families arrived in the town last Friday to greet high street shoppers as the campaign was launched.
He said he was supporting it to encourage pride in the town centre during the recession, and to help create retail jobs for the future.
He said: “It is always good to see lots of shoppers in our town centres in Ossett, Horbury and Normanton, where there are some real bargains to be had.
“I think it is really important that we do everything we can to make sure our town centres across the district are lively and flourishing.
“This is an important part of making sure we keep new jobs coming in.”
He said the government was committed to tackling town centre crime and anti-social behaviour which could harm business.
He added: “We need make sure there is investment in our town centres and that we work with local neighbourhood police teams to provide things like CCTV which make sure businesses and the public are safe.”
