Murder accused met girlfriend on Facebook

THE girlfriend of a man accused of killing his gay lover fell for him after meeting him on Facebook, a jury heard.

Dawn Mallinson, from Netherton, met David Large during a poker game on the social networking site after being introduced by a mutual friend, Bradford Crown Court was told.

Large, 35, is standing trial accused of murder after he allegedly ordered the killing of motor trader Christopher Hartley.

Mr Hartley was blasted to death by a shotgun at a remote spot on Litherop Lane, just of Denby Dale Road, on September 8, 2009.

The jury was told that Large paid his friend Simon Keith Mullen to pull the trigger.

Miss Mallinson, giving evidence, today (Friday) recalled how she first met Large online in May 2008.

And the court heard how they met face to face for the first time months later and their relationship developed and became serious.

Prosecutor, Alistair MacDonald QC, asked Miss Mallison: "By April 2009 what were your feelings for David Large?"

The care home administrator replied: "I was in love with him."

The witness said they both wanted marriage and children.

Earlier the court heard how Mr Hartley, 45, of Batley Road, Tingley, had a 15-year infatuation with Large, who had four or five sexual relationships with him.

Large wanted to start a new life with Miss Mallinson and resorted to extreme measures against Mr Hartley.

Large, of Rona Croft, Rothwell, and Mullen, 39, of Farding Square, South Shields, both deny murder.
