Musician urges people to be proud of city with song about Westgate Run, the Bull Ring and Greggs

A MUSICIAN is hoping to inspire people to be proud of their home city with his song Wakefield.

So far Chris Littlewood’s acoustic track, which features references to the Westgate Run, the Bull Ring and Greggs, has received more than 3,500 You tube hits.

Mr Littlewood, 22, grew up in Ossett and wrote the tune last year while studying at Huddersfield University.

He said: “My lecturer was a big advocate of singing in your own accent and not being so stereotypical and I agreed with him.

“So I picked up my guitar and thought I would write a song about Wakefield and Ossett.

“I’m quite proud of being from Wakefield and I know that it get’s a bit of a bad reputation. But people who have heard the song have taken to it and I’ve got a lot of positive feedback.”
