A choir from Netherton sang their hearts out with thousands of other youngsters to help raise money for a children’s cancer charity.

The Key Stage 2 choir at Netherton J&I School, on Netherton Lane, travelled to Sheffield Arena last Thursday to take part in the Young Voices competition.

They sang a variety of songs, including a medley of Queen’s We Will Rock You, with about 7,000 children from across the country.

Music co-ordinator Andrea Rosamond said the children really enjoyed the event.

She said: “The children were hugely disappointed when their first concert date had to be cancelled in January due to the snow.

“They’d worked extremely hard learning a variety of songs and dance music and couldn’t wait to get going.

“The event was a fabulous experience for all of the children. It is a great opportunity for local school choirs to sing in huge arenas alongside some of the most talented artsits from the world of music.”

Mrs Rosamond said She said: “Anything we can possibly sing, we’ll sing.”

Young Voices is the largest school choir organiser in the world and currently organises over 14 capacity concerts a year in the UK and Ireland’s leading arenas.

Each year over 2,500 schools, 90,000 children, 6,000 teachers and 120,000 family and friends come together to enjoy music and celebrate singing.

As well as promoting an involvement in music from a young age, the family-run organisation also helps to raise money for Clic Sargent, a charity which helps children with cancer.

Ben Lewis, managing director of Young Voices said: “Every pupil should be exposed to music at an early age, whether the joy is singing, playing an instrument or loving the sound of music, the potential benefits are huge.”
