New chief for Probus
WAKEFIELD Probus Club has appointed Stan Hibbins as its new chairman.
Mr Hibbins was invested as the 37th chairman by outgoing chairman Alan Batley at the club's annual general meeting at the Chasley Hotel in the city on February 7.
Born and bred in Horbury, Mr Hibbins attended school there and later went to Wakefield Technical College.
He subsequently took a junior position on Horbury District Council before joining the RAF in 1950.
He later carried out study and work experience at Sydney Raines and James Austin, before becoming managing director of a structural engineering firm in Barnsley. He held other directorships with subsidiary companies.
Mr Hibbins married wife Betty in 1954. They have two sons and four grandchildren.
Mr Hibbins enjoys game shooting, fishing and bowling. A member of the Freemasons, he is past master of Spenvale Lodge and holds the rank of principal officer.
