New Year racers compete in Sharlston Soap Box Derby
RACERS welcomed in the new year by whizzing though a village in their home-made go karts.
Around a dozen teams took to the streets for the fifth Sharlston Soap Box Derby yesterday (Tuesday).
The New Year’s Day event now attracts more than 1,000 spectators and raises cash for a village community fund, which supports local children.
Sharlston farmer Ian Bulmer and fellow racer Russell Kaye won first prize in the adult section.
And they donated their £100 winnings back to the community fund.
