The district’s hospitals trust will join forces with six other NHS organisations to cut costs and boost standards.

Bosses at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust are drawing up plans to work with hospital providers from South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire after a meeting last month.

The seven trusts agreed to work together as the NHS faces tough financial challenges.

Bosses discussed implementing seven-day working at hospitals to improve standards and possibly sharing back office functions.

Paediatrics, maternity, care of the elderly, dementia, cancer services and elective surgery were discussed at the meeting, a report to Mid Yorkshire’s board meeting last week shows.

Trusts could also pool resources to get the best price when procuring goods and services.

Bosses from Mid Yorkshire, Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster and Bassetlaw, and Sheffield’s two hospital trusts were at the meeting.

The report said: “The seven acute providers in South Yorkshire, Mid Yorkshire and North Derbyshire have agreed to work together to improve clinical quality standards and meet future financial challenges.”

A proposal is now being drawn up for approval by the boards of each trust on how they can work together.

The report said: “The proposal will set out how an environment can be created which will enable people to work together, and stay working together, over the next few years.”
