PCSO Katie Hester could be officer of the year for her work at Heath Common traveller site

A police officer has been recognised for her work in the community.

PCSO Katie Hester of Normanton neighbourhood police team (NPT) has received an Assistant Chief Constables’ Commendation for her “excellent work” over the past year.

She has also been put forward for a national award.

The commendation recognised her “innovative work” with partner agencies to form links with the travelling community”.

PCSO Hester, who covers Altofts, Normanton, Kirkthorpe, Warmfield, Heath and the Jolly Sailor traveller site, said: “The traveller and gypsy site and the partnership working I have conducted is where my initial nomination has come from as I have built up a good relationship with the travelling community in this area.

“There are several things I have organised and been involved in, like the Future Stars events including initiating the Gangnam Style video, Heath Ghostwalk for all the residents and developing a good relationship with the members of the OAP Association in Altofts.”

PCSO Hester has been with the NPT since July 2011. And she has made it through to the final three of PCSO of the Year Award, which will be decided on Friday, March 15, ahead of 700 of her colleagues from across the force.
