Peach of an idea to inspire children

THE tale of a little boy who escapes from his horrible aunts and sails away inside a giant peach provided the inspiration for creative kids this week.

A morning of craft activities, based on the James and The Giant Peach and other stories written by the much-loved children’s author Roald Dahl, took place at Horbury Library on Tuesday.

And the event was part of an ongoing initiative to encourage more young people to use the Westfield Road library.

Bridie Wright, assistant librarian, said: “The idea is to run with themes from Roald Dahl stories such as The Enormous Crocodile, Fantastic Mr Fox, The Big Friendly Giant and James and The Giant Peach.

“We made giant bookmarks with Big Friendly Giant ears and other book marks with enormous crocodile teeth.

“We also made giant peaches using paper plates and tissue paper as well as fantastic fox masks.”
