Police raid drugs farm

A MAJOR police operation uncovered a cannabis farm in Horbury Bridge. And it was the second significant haul of the powerful plants in the city within a week.

Officers from the north west neighbourhood police team (NPT), the operational support unit and the dog unit were all involved in the swoop, at an industrial unit at Addingford Mills.

Insp Sally Fryer, of the north west NPT said: "After executing a warrant we found a large quantity of cannabis plants growing in a unit.

"If anyone in the community has information or knowledge of people dealing or cultivating drugs they should let my officers know."

More than 135 plants were found after a search last Wednesday night.

A 31-year-old man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences and on suspicion of proceeds of crime offences.

Last week police officers found five rooms full of a young crop of the drug when they raided a house in Horbury Road, Thornes.

Officers of the Central NPT were given a tip-off about the stash from the landlord of the property.

Both raids were carried out as part of the Dealer a Day Campaign.

Backed by the Express, the campaign aims to clean up the drug problem driving crime across the city.

Police say they are determined to target the 'untouchables' living in our communities – the behind-the-scenes suppliers, financing extravagant lifestyles with profits from drugs. Chief Supt Marc Callaghan said: "We want to take out these local criminals who think they are untouchable.

"We have listened to residents and one of their priorities is for police to take firm action against the drugs menace in their neighbourhoods."
