Shoppers can grab a bargain - and raise money to help train guide dogs at the same time.

The Wakefield branch of the charity, Guide Dogs, is opening a one-off pop up shop at the city’s market.

Along with official Guide Dogs merchandise, the charity will also be selling good quality donated items including clothes, homeware, books and DVDs.

Branch organiser, Joanne Beverley, said: “Because we have the pop up shop for four days we wanted to expand on the normal range of Guide Dog items that we usually sell.

“If we can get people to donate quality new or used items we should raise even more money, and every £5 raised goes towards helping a visually impaired person to lead an independent life by supporting a working guide dog partnership for one day.”

The stall will be inside the market, next to the Union Street entrance from Wednesday, March 20 until Saturday, March 23.

As well as raising money to train assistance dogs, Guide Dogs also carries out important research and campaigns for the rights of people with visual impairments.

The charity is always in need of donations and volunteers.
