Pride in city drums up spirits
GLITTERY frocks and cheesy tunes are at the ready as the city gears up for this year's Wakefield Pride event.
The fun starts at noon on Southgate on Sunday, and hosts the fabulous Miss Blanche and Marky Mark, who will make sure there is never a dull moment.
Live entertainment will start at 1pm with appearances from the likes of The Diamond Divas, Erasure tribute band, Erased and Angie Brown V's The Sleazesisters.
Star guests will be S Club 3, three founding members of pop group S Club 7, who split in 2003.
Jo O'Meara, Bradley McIntosh and Paul Cattermole will take to the stage with some of the group's biggest hits such as Reach and Never Had a Dream Come True.
There will also be a range of stalls and refreshments at the event organised by the Nu Wakefield Pride Committee, and supported by the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Committee member Sol Pickwell-Nicolaou said there will be something for everyone, adding: "It's a fun day out for all the family.
"It is a pride event but it is not just for the gay community. It is about bringing communities together and cohesion."
The main event will finish with a colourful parade through the city from 6.15pm, with celebrations continuing into the night at the New Union and other pubs and clubs across the city.
