PRINCESS Anne is set to visit Wakefield this week.

The Princess Royal will visit Stanley Ferry Workshops, which builds lock gates for canals all over the country, on Friday October 5.

Workshop supervisor, Steven Brunt, said: “We can’t wait. Princess Anne chose to come here herself because she loves Yorkshire folk apparently. Everyone is buzzing about it, and cannot wait. It’ll be like a wedding though, it’ll be over before we know it, so we’re going to enjoy every minute of it”.

Princess Anne will have a tour of the site, including the welding, gearing and lock gate departments, before meeting and greeting shop floor and office staff.

The company owned by the Canal and River Trust, formerly British Waterways, recently manufactured new gates for the famous Five Rise Locks in Bingley.

From Wakefield, The Princess Royal will travel to Shepley Bridge Marina in Mirfield,to relaunch the E Austen Johnson for the Safe Anchor Trust.

She will then attend a lunchtime reception on supported employment in Bradford.
