Motorists can expect long delays near the M1 motorway while an overturned lorry is removed.

A lorry flipped over on the A638, Dewsbury Road, near Silkwood Park, in Ossett, Wakefield, at 11am this morning (Thursday).

The road has been closed by police and highways teams and the lorry is expected to be removed shortly.

Graham West, service manager for Highways Network, said: “This afternoon we received a report of an overturned vehicle on the A638.

“Officers are there now helping to clear up the debris and reopen the road as soon as possible.

“The road is expected to be closed into the evening, so we ask drivers to seek alternative routes where possible.”

A police spokesman said junction 40 of the M1 southbound could also be closed briefly while the vehicle is recovered.
