Swine flu: Wakefield residents urged to telephone GP

HEALTH bosses in Wakefield have changed the way they will deal with swine flu.

NHS Wakefield want patients who suspect they have swine flu symptoms to telephone their GP to arrange to get anti-viral medicine, instead of needing to take a swab and confirm the disease.

People should not visit the GP's surgery or go A&E.

It is part of national switch in the way the Department of Health is dealing with swine flu.

They say it is impossible to contain the virus and expect 100,000 cases to be confirmed every day by the end of the summer.

There are currently 7,000 cases in the UK, with numbers growing by several hundred each day.

If you think you have swine flu symptoms, check online with NHS Direct or call 0845 46 47 - or call the Swine Flu information line on 0800 1 513 513.
