Taste of the past with medieval banquet
MEDIEVAL knights and princesses were treated to a banquet at Middlestown J&I School.
The party was the culmination of a Castles and Dragons topic which saw year one and two pupils investigate all elements of medieval life – including playing football with a pig’s bladder as done in days gone by.
Eagles and falcons were brought into school.
The pupils also took part in medieval dancing before the banquet of traditional cakes, meat, fruit and home made apple juice.
The children also went on a visit to Skipton Castle so they could find out what foods they would need for the feast.
Cassie Davenport, year one teacher, said: “The children absolutely loved it. They love the castles and dragons topic anyway, and these activities really made the topic come alive. They tried so hard putting the banquet on and all of them put in a fantastic effort.
“We do topic-based learning every term and make sure the activities are fun and exciting, as this is the most effective way for them to learn. It’s important to make it all quite practical so the children can learn new skills.”
