Teenage thugs racially abused taxi driver in Eastmoor area of Wakefield

A GANG of teenage thugs smashed the windscreen of a taxi and shouted racial abuse at the driver.

The victim was parked outside Wakefield City High School, Eastmoor, at 9.45pm on Friday when he was set upon by up to nine teenagers aged between 15 and 18-years-old.

Insp Richard Close, of the Central Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:

“All incidents such as this are unacceptable and particularly when they are against taxi drivers.

“Since the incident we stepped up patrols in the area to reassure residents that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.

“A team of special constables have been patrolling the Lupset, Flanshaw and Peacock areas and plain-clothed officers have also been working closely with local taxi and private hire firms to try and identify those responsible and to help reassure drivers.”
