THE seventh Wakefield Festival of Food, Drink and Rhubarb returns
Wakefield Rhubarb festival
THE seventh Wakefield Festival of Food, Drink and Rhubarb returns to the city next month.
The three-day annual event celebrates the traditional links with rhubarb growing across the city, while offering a selection of the finest and tastiest produce from the region.
Talented chefs will also be on hand during cookery demonstrations in the city centre between Friday, February 22, and Sunday, February 24.
Festive celebrations will include street entertainment, walks, tours, a Yorkshire market and visits to the rhubarb growing sheds.
The festival was established in 2007 and last year attracted more then 80,000 visitors.
Rhubarb has played an important part in the local economy for more than 150 years. And last year it joined the hallowed ranks of Europe’s protected foods, receiving the same status as Champagne and Parma Ham.
The final programme for the weekend is still under wraps by Wakefield Council, but it is set to include some new activities.
