Time to tell a very big story

A VERY big story is being written and you could be one of its authors.

Organisers of the city’s first Lit Fest are inviting people to get involved with the ‘Very Big Story’.

The huge tale will be formed by multiple 140 character contributions, which can be sent via Twitter or email.

Organisers Beam are looking for any input from stories about the city, things that might have happened to you, or well-kept secrets.

Entries are already rushing in on the Twitter page, which can be accessed through hash-tag #wakestory.

And 140 character long emails can also be sent to ann@beam.uk.net.

The finished project – which will see all the contributions collectively merged together – will be displayed online and at the Orangery, as well as being used as material for a new poem by the Festival Writer in Residence, James Nash.

The Lit Fest – which runs from September 22 – 30 – aims to help promote writing, reading and the enjoyment of literature for everyone.

International poet and writer Simon Armitage, is headling the festival while workshops and readings will take place hosted by Yorkshire writer and broadcaster Ian Clayton, and poet Ian McMillan.

Frances Smith, project manager at Beam, said: “We’re hoping to build excitement about the first Lit Fest through gathering ultra-short Wakefield stories in the run up to, and during, the festival.

“We really hope everyone across Wakefield will get involved in helping to build this very big story – showing off their literary talents and highlighting all that is weird and wonderful about Wakefield.”

All tickets for events being held at the Lit Fest are available through the Theatre Royal Wakefield Box Office.
