Top nominations for tourist information service
WAKEFIELD'S tourist information centre could be in line for awards glory for the second year running.
The centre, on the Bull Ring, is one of seven finalists from Yorkshire in the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence, the UK's most prestigious tourism contest.
And Linda Banks, who works at the centre, has been personally nominated in the Outstanding Customer Service category.
The centre was selected after winning the White Rose Awards at the Royal Armouries in Leeds last October.
It will come up against information centres in Nottingham and Portsmouth in the Best Tourist Information Service category.
York's National Railway Museum, Lebberstone Touring Park in Scarborough, Ripley Castle near Harrogate, the Crown Spa in Scarborough and Greens fish and chip restaurant in Whitby are also in the final.
The highest number of Yorkshire finalists ever will be at the awards ceremony in Brighton this April.
Gary Verity, chief executive of regional tourism body Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "The national awards celebrate the very best England has to offer. Congratulations and the very best of luck to everyone shortlisted.
"I will be there to cheer on all our Yorkshire finalists and I am confident we will be coming home winners."
