Trucker's set to face a re-trial

A JURY has failed to reach a verdict on a trucker accused of causing a cyclist's death.

HGV driver Andrew Wayne Stubbs, 40, denied causing the death of Anthony Spink by dangerous driving at the junction of Ings Road and Charlesworth Way, on July 23 last year in Wakefield city centre.

Mr Spink, 41, of Featherstone, died from multiple injuries.

Yesterday at Leeds Crown Court a jury of seven men and five women were unable to reach a verdict after more than 10 hours of deliberation.

Prosecutor Patrick Palmer succesfullly applied to judge Geoffrey Marson QC for Stubbs to face a re-trial.

A hearing is scheduled to take place next Friday to determine the dates of a new trial.

Judge Marson QC discharged the jury yesterday afternoon.

Stubbs, of George Street, Bicester, Oxford, was granted bail.
