Up top for charity Down Under
An Ossett ladies football player slogged it up Sydney Harbour Bridge with her husband to raise more than £1,000 for Wakefield Hospice.
Victoria Jackson, who plays in midfield for Ossett Town Ladies, conquered the 134m climb after her husband Tristan, who helps to organise events for the club, decided to do something different for his 30th birthday.
The couple raised 1,010 from their Aussie expedition and will present a cheque to reps from Wakefield Hospice, sponsors of Ossett Town, before the kick-off at a home match against Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday, April 10. Mr Jackson, of Lupset, said: "I didn't want any gifts and asked people to sponsor me instead.
"It was a great experience, but also quite daunting – I'm not a big fan of heights and I certainly don't like flying. So there were moments of fear, particularly climbing down the vertical ladders at the end, with the road 70 metres below.
"But we really appreciate the work Wakefield Hospice does and I'm glad we could donate to a local charity."
Mrs Jackson's dad Bruce Saul is currently the match day secretary for Ossett Town, and has been central to the running of the club for about 25 years.
Mrs Jackson, 28, said: "He has held just about every position you can hold at the club – and that's what got me involved.
"It was the first time I'd done anything like this and it was truly breathtaking."
Helen Knowles, director of fundraising for Wakefield Hospice, said: "This is a marvellous achievement for both of them, and we are hugely thankful for the money they have managed to raise and to everyone who sponsored them."
Mr Jackson said he plans to take on a similar challenge for charity at his next milestone birthday.
