Vandals destroy Wakefield school's canopy
YOBS slashed a newly-built canopy at a primary school that is plagued by vandals.
They caused more than 500 worth of damage to the canopy put up to create an outside classroom at St Mary's Primary School.
Headteacher Mark Taylor is outraged that the school, on Charles Street, Wakefield, will have to pay the repair bill.
He said: "It was only built three months ago. We had it put up for the foundation stage children to be able to work outside in the shade.
"They were really pleased with it, it was an extension of their classroom. For it to be damaged was very disappointing and it's going to be very expensive for the school.
"The money we will have to spend replacing the canopy could have been spent on buying new equipment for the children."

The attack, which happened some time during the weekend of June 20 and 21, is the latest to hit the school.
Mr Taylor said: "A few weekends ago we had a fence broken. There seems to be a spate of criminal damage hitting school.
"It's very sad because we do try to be a community school, doing things for the community and the people who live here.
"But unfortunately that is not appreciated by some people."
