Wakefield Council gives Freedom of the city to troops
SOLDIERS will parade through the city when the 3rd Batallion of the Yorkshire Regiment is given the freedom of the city today.
The ceremony to honour the Duke of Wellington's regiment, which will be attended by local dignitaries, is to take place outside Wakefield Cathedral at 2pm.
The regiment will parade from George Street at 1.45pm through Smyth Street, Westgate and the Bull Ring before entering the precinct area. Following the ceremony, the regiment will march around the city.
The Express has a dedicated section on its website, which gives family, friends and the general public the chance to send messages of support to troops serving abroad.
