Wakefield dad killed in Iraq

A DAD-of-TWO was killed in an explosion in Iraq an inquest heard.

Robbie Napier, 36, of Clifton Avenue, Stanley, was working as a civilian security operative in Baghdad for American company Aegis when the incident happened on March 10.

Mr Napier sustained fatal injuries from a detonated explosive device when he was travelling as a passenger in the front vehicle of a three-vehicle convoy, the hearing was told.

Coroner David Hinchliff said: "When I am investigating a death in a foreign country, I do not have the same powers or jurisdiction as I do here, but I will try and do things as efficiently and speedily as I can."

Mr Hinchliff said his officers would be liaising with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in a bid to establish what happened.

He adjourned the hearing pending the outcome of further enquiries.
