THE city’s Tourist Information Centre and Hepworth gallery won awards last night (Monday).
The TIC, in the Bullring, won gold in the visitor information category of Welcome to Yorkshire’s White Rose Awards.
And the Hepworth won the art and culture award, just ahead of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) which was a finalist.
The YSP was also a finalist for the large visitor attraction of the year award at last night’s ceremony in Leeds.
Coun Peter Box, leader of Wakefield Council, said: “Congratulations to the Wakefield TIC on this great achievement. And further congratulations to The Hepworth Wakefield on their award success and to finalist The Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
“Our TIC is a focal point in the city and provides an invaluable service in not only helping residents and visitors, but in promoting the area and letting people know how many great things there are to see and do in the Wakefield district.”
