Building a new career?
BUILDERS of the future can learn their trade at a new construction studies centre, which opens in Ossett today.
Kirklees College has invested 120,000 in the new centre at Sandbeds Industrial Estate, where joinery, plastering and brickwork courses will be run.
Students will have access to classrooms, workshops and an IT suite at the 17,500 sq ft site, which will cater for apprentices, Train to Gain and NVQ students.
Diana Branston, director of curriculum at the college, said: “This investment in new facilities will provide a real boost to the area and a first-class learning environment for students.
“It will allow the college to cater for the high demand we still have for qualifications in the popular construction trades of bricklaying and joinery, as well as allowing us to offer a brand new course in plastering.”
The Wakefield Road site, which was opened today by Howard Cook MBE, replaces construction facilities at Kirklees College’s Dewsbury Centre.
