Bully broke woman's jaw
A BULLY who attacked two girlfriends has been jailed for four years.
Paul John Reather, 39, fractured Adele Maloney's jaw with a single punch during an argument and harassed her for over a year, Leeds Crown Court heard.
While on bail Reather, of Taylors Court, Normanton, went on to repeatedly kick Lynsey Hayward in the head and body while she was down on the ground during a vicious assault in April this year.
Recorder Sandeep Kainth, passing sentence, said: "You have a bad temper Mr Reather, which you cannot control."
He added: "You have assaulted two separate partners and in my view there is an element of degradation because you find it easy to lash out at women when you are in drink."
Reather claimed self-defence but was convicted of wounding Miss Maloney, putting her in fear of violence by harassment, and of assaulting her.
He was also found guilty assaulting occasioning actual harm on Miss Hayward.
The court also heard details of the impact on Miss Maloney who was wounded in October 2008. She was hospitalised for over a week, needed plastic surgery and is still being troubled by the injury nearly two years on.
In another incident he grabbed her by the neck and threw her across the room.
The judge added: ""It's clear you are an individual who can be described as a bully , attacking ladies – absolutely outrageous behaviour and there can never be justification for aggression of this kind."
Recorder Kainth said he had to make it clear to everybody that this kind of behaviour cannot be tolerated.
Tony Moore, mitigating, said Reather recognised he had an anger problem and it was something he wanted to address. He said Reather was contrite and concerned about the injury he caused to Miss Maloney.
The court heard Reather was a hard working individual and also of the effect a custodial sentence would have on him and the family business.
Mr Moore said his parents had already had to come out of retirement to pick up the reins.
As well as the jail sentence Reather was made subject to an indefinite restraining order preventing contact with Miss Maloney.
