Card company looks set for sale
A WAKEFIELD greeting cards company – worth an estimated £400m – could be sold.
Finance firm KPMG has confirmed it has been appointed to advise on the sale of the Card Factory, a 480-store retailer based on Brunel Road, Wakefield.
The firm employs around 4,500 people in the UK and is one of Yorkshire's fastest-growing companies, with profits of 29m.
Its owners, Huddersfield Town chairman Dean Hoyle and his wife, Janet, declined to comment yesterday after news of the sale first broke within a national newspaper.
The Express also tried to contact Richard Hayes, the firm's managing director, but had not responded to a request for a comment at the time of writing. Heckmondwike-born Mr Hoyle founded his retail empire by selling cards from the back of a van before opening his first store in 1997.
Within six years the business had grown to 38 shops, and the company now has more than 480 high street stores around the country.
Latest figures show sales of 168m at the company, which last year took more than 74 stores from rival card retailer Celebrations Group.
