Plan to crack down on intimidation
School visits and a new role in the local police force are the latest features of an ongoing campaign to crack down on anti-social behaviour.
Officers from the northwest NPT visited Ossett School last week to talk to year 10 students about their role in the community, and how they come across in public.
The students and officers discussed anti-social behaviour and how to avoid getting involved.
Insp Sally Fryer said: "We want to engage with young people to find out what issues are affecting them.
"We also want to explain to them that by standing around in large groups they may be having an impact on vulnerable members of society even if they are not actually doing anything wrong."
A new role within the NPT has recently seen PC Alison Robinson appointed as anti-social behaviour officer for the northwest neighbourhood policing team, and will work with partnership agencies to reduce problems.
But Insp Fryer said the creation of the post should not be seen to reflect the severity of the problem locally.
She said: "It's not that there are bigger problems here than in other places – I just want to give the issue greater focus."
