23/02/10 Castleford NPT

Officers from the Castleford Neighbourhood Policing Team recently discovered two cannabis farms in Castleford. The first, in Townville was a fairly large scale operation which led to the recovery of 400 cannabis plants. On the second occasion an officer on patrol noticed a strong smell of cannabis and traced the source to an address in the Half Acres area. Officers searched the premises and seized a further 34 plants. Enquiries are still ongoing. Anyone with any further information can contact Castleford NPT or crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

20th February 2010 Pontefract & Knottingley NPT

Two youths from the Knottingley area have been arrested this week on the suspicion of their involvement in a theft from motor vehicle and the theft of a motor bike. The offences took place in the Monkhill and Nevison area. There has been a recent increase in vehicle crime where property has been left on show in unattended vehicles. Can I remind everyone to remove such items from vehicles by doing so you reduce your chance of being a victim.

19th February 2010 Castleford NPT

Offenders have broken into a goods vehicle in the Glasshoughton area and stolen a quantity of antibiotic prescription medicines. If anyone has information about this or any other crime please contact the police on 0845 6060606 or the Castleford Neighbourhood Policing Team on 01924 206210.

25th February 2010 Wakefield Central NPT

Wakefield Central NPT and the UK Border Agency conducted a joint operation to target illegal entrants to the UK who were working illegallyin restaurant and food outlets in the Wakefield city centre. Officersenteredtwo premises in the Westgate area detaining3 foreign nationals for removal from the UK.The owners of these businesses now face heavy fines for employing persons debarred from employment; these can range from 5,000 to 10,000 per illegal entrant employed. At a second take away restaurant two further persons were found to be working illegally, again the owners face substantial fines and one of the detainees a 17 year old youth was returned to the care of the social services pending removal. One male was also arrested by the police for a public order offence near one of the food outlets whilst the operation took place. Sgt Steve Hunt, Wakefield Central NPTsaid "We will continue to assist partner agencies with this type ofproactiveoperation in our communities as this often uncovers other criminal offences and crime intelligence"

Road and Traffic Issues

February 24th 2010 South East NPT

The Highways department report that the advance warning signs in relation to the 7.5 tonne weight restriction on the A628 will be installed within the next week and that initial survey figures show a 60% reduction in the numbers of HGV using the road.

February 24th 2010 Featherstone.

Roads Policing Officers were called to Went Lane Featherstone shortly after 07:00 where an articulated goods vehicle laden with glass had left the road in foggy weather and come to rest in a ditch, the driver was uninjured but the road closed until 10:00 to facilitate recovery. Severe disruption was caused to local traffic and a number of nearby residents had 'phone service disrupted due to the vehicle damaging a telegraph pole.

Horbury appeal.

The Normanton Road Policing unit are investigating a road traffic collision which occurred on Wakefield Road, Horbury outside the school. It occurred between 08:00-08:30 Monday 22nd Feb 2010. The Circumstances are that a 13yr old male exited the 231 School bus and was in process of crossing the road when he slipped on the icy surface, whilst in the carriageway he was been struck by a car, believed to be a red Vauxhall Astra with a female driver which had pulled out from behind the bus, having struck the boy the driver stopped briefly before making off. The boy sustained two broken bones in his foot as a result.
