Pub grub proves a real Star!
A LOCAL pub loved for serving up good food has been hailed a hero by customers and a TV channel.
The Star Inn on Batley Road in Kirkhamgate was nominated by customers for a local food hero award from UKTV Food.
They are given as a tribute to independent food businesses and to reward those providing good local food.
After voting closed last month, the pub was told it has made the top 20 list of establishments in the north by the TV company.
Landlord Andrew Balde-rson took over as landlord at the end of January.
He said: “The pub is like a family, most of the staff have been working here for a long time and I like to encourage them to get to know the customers and talk to them.”
He said one of the most popular dishes served in the pub was steak and mushroom pie served with homemade chips.
And the sticky toffee pudding is based on the recipe of the great-grandmother of one member of staff.
Mr Balderson said: “We serve honest food and it’s nice to be recognised for what we do.
“Everyone’s really pleased.”
