Second day for jury

JURORS considering the alleged abduction and killing of a Wakefield travel agent have begun a second day of deliberations.

Trial judge Mr Justice Wilkie sent the panel of twelve out again when the trial resumed today.

The nine women and three men on the jury at Sheffield Crown Court first began considering its verdicts at 10.24am yesterday.

Engineer Ioannis Revenikiotis, 29, denies abduction and manslaughter.

Miss Hammill died in the early hours of November 29, 2003. The trial has heard Miss Hammill was walking home to Lincoln Street with fianc James Garland. She got into Revenikiotis's car on Balne Lane thinking it was a taxi. Miss Hammill, 20, was driven away and Mr Garland was left behind.

It's claimed she panicked and escaped the moving vehicle as Revenikiotis drove past her home and towards the countryside. But Miss Hammill landed in the middle of Batley Road where she was hit by an oncoming vehicle. She died almost immediately from multiple injuries.

The trial of Revenikiotis, formerly, of School Crescent, Dewsbury, began on October 3.

The case continues.
