As it happened

Saturday, November 29, 2003: Stephanie Hammill is abducted and killed in the early hours.

Ioannis Revenikiotis, the man responsible, flies to South Korea at noon on a pre-arranged business trip.

December 19: Engineer Revenikiotis returns to UK.

December 20: He begins mammoth road-trip back to his native Greece.

Christmas Eve: Revenikiotis arrives home.

January 6, 2004: He sends an e-mail to his boss effectively resigning.

January 12: Boss Jim Boucher rings police after seeing a possible connection between Miss Hammill's death and Revenikiotis's sudden departure.

29 November: Greek police find Revenikiotis's Mercedes in a local scrap yard.

13 December: Miss Hammill's fingerprint is found inside the car.

12 June, 2005: Officers from West Yorkshire Police go to Greece.

16 June: Greek police interview Revenikiotis. He says he doesn't know Stephanie. But when confronted with fingerprint evidence he declines to answer.

13 February, 2006: He is extradited to England following a ruling by the Greek Supreme Court.

11 September: The first trial of Revenikiotis begins at Leeds Crown Court. But he is soon deemed mentally unfit to stand trial. The jury continue to consider the case in his absence.

5 October: Jurors find he abducted and killed Miss Hammill but he cannot be held criminally responsible because of the fitness issue. The jury also cleared Revenikiotis of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a pregnant Dewsbury woman before Miss Hammill's death.

3 October, 2007: A year later Revenikiotis goes on trial for a second time. But the case is heard afresh at Sheffield Crown Court following huge media coverage in West Yorkshire.

Tuesday, October 30: Ioannis Revenikiotis unanimously found guilty of kidnapping Miss Hammill. But Jury continue to consider the manslaughter charge.

Wednesday October 31: He is found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to a total of 11 years.
