the city’s best bands will share top billing with international acts as Wakefield’s first major multi-venue music festival takes place this weekend.
Long Division will see 80 acts perform across eight venues, including city band Runaround Kids, who performed at last year’s Leeds Festival.
The band’s Jack Winn, 19, of Stanley, said: “The festival is a great thing for Wakefield. If you look at other cities like Leeds they all have a number of events like this – Wakefield was very much in need of it.
“Other festivals we’ve played at have been quite local but it will be great to play at something so big at our hometown.”
Other local bands performing include Skint and Demoralised, Piskie Sits, New Vinyl, Penguin, Pylon and St Gregory Orange.
Other bands playing over the weekend include The Wedding Present, Emmy the Great and Darwin Deez.
Tickets for Saturday cost £12 and are available from The Hop, Wakefield Tourist Information Centre and the Green Room Cafe at Theatre Royal Wakefield. Free fringe gigs will take place across the weekend.
