Man accused of robbing Wakefield newsagent

A MAN has been accused of robbing and wounding a city newsagent.

Stephen Parkinson, 33, is alleged to have robbed John Parker, of Parker News, Lower Warrengate, of £350 cash and a till worth £1,000 on Sunday morning.

Parkinson, of Arncliffe Road, Eastmoor, is also alleged to have possessed a five-inch kitchen knife on Lower Warrengate and to have wounded Mr Parker with intent.

He also faces a further charge of assaulting Simon Tomlinson with intent to resist arrest.

Julie Allott, defending, made no application for bail during a short hearing at Wakefield Magistrates’ Court on Monday morning.

District Judge Marie Mallon remanded Parkinson in custody and sent his case to Leeds Crown Court for trial.

Parkinson faces a preliminary hearing in Leeds on Monday morning.
